Warning: spoilers ahead for episode 2 of Loki.
In episode 2 of Loki on Disney Plus, Marvel’s God of Mischief (Tom Hiddleston) makes significant progress understanding how the other variant Loki is escaping the clutches of the TVA (Time Variance Authority).
Loki – who was captured by the TVA after his escape in Avengers: Endgame – realises that the other version of himself is hiding out in apocalypses throughout time.
The idea comes to him after reading up about Ragnarok, the prophesied destruction of his home kingdom Asgard depicted in the 2017 film Thor: Ragnarok.
Although Loki knows that it’s another Loki messing around with the timeline and killing TVA agents, the big reveal at the end of the episode, when Lady Loki (Sophia Di Martino) takes down her hood, definitely takes him by surprise.
So who is Lady Loki in the Marvel comics and what else has Sophia starred in?

Nonetheless, one of the most memorable and beloved among fans is as Lady Loki, who was first introduced in the 2008 Thor Vol 3 #5 Marvel comic.
In the comic books, Lady Loki emerges after Loki takes over a human female body following the events of Ragnarok.
The body in question was actually supposed to be for Lady Sif, the Asgardian warrior portrayed in the MCU by Jaimie Alexander.
In the comics Lady Loki is Loki in a female form, as opposed to a different version of the character separate to Loki.
However, in the Disney Plus series, Lady Loki is introduced as an alternate version of the trickster, who comes face to face with Loki before disaster strikes.

In the 2014 comic book series Loki: Agent of Asgard, the character was made canonically gender fluid, with Odin referring to Loki as ‘my son, and my daughter, and my child who is both’.
Loki’s gender fluidity in the MCU was confirmed in a promo video for the series, when a TVA file on Loki listed their sex as ‘fluid’.
Who plays Lady Loki?
Lady Loki is played in the Marvel series by Sophia Di Martino.
The English actor has previously starred in productions including Silent Witness, Casualty and Friday Night Dinner, in which she memorably played Simon Bird’s character’s girlfriend in the first episode of series three.

Despite it being confirmed that Sophia would be starring in Loki, up until now, her role has remained firmly under wraps.
Nonetheless, speculation was rife that she would be appearing as Lady Loki, particularly after she was spotted on set wearing a costume almost identical to her co-star Tom’s.
Sophia added even more fuel to the rumours that she would be portraying Lady Loki when she posed for photographs with Tom at the premiere of Loki in London ahead of its launch on Disney Plus.
