Warning: spoilers ahead for episode 4 of Loki.

Episode 4 of Loki on Disney Plus marks a massive turning point for Marvel’s God of Mischief, as Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) find themselves captured once again ahead of a mind-boggling mid-credits scene.

After being interrogated, Loki and Sylvie are taken by judge Ravonna Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) to meet the Time-Keepers, who are in charge of monitoring the Sacred Timeline, after she has agent Mobius M Mobius (Owen Wilson) ‘pruned’ for helping Loki.

A fight ensues between Sylvie, Loki and the Minutemen, after Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) – who discovered from Sylvie that she had a life before the TVA – helped free them from their electronic collars.

Sylvie manages to cut off one of the Time-Keepers heads, only to discover that they’re androids, meaning that there’s someone else behind the scenes pulling the strings.

But before she and Loki can get to the bottom of the mystery, Ravonna ‘prunes’ Loki with her weapon, making it seem as though he has been exterminated.

However, in the mid-credits scene, it’s revealed that Loki is still alive and in the company of some new characters.

What does the mid-credits scene mean?

The mid-credits scene opens with Loki waking up on the ground, panting as he asks: ‘Is this hell? Am I dead?’

‘Not yet,’ someone answers, with a voice that sounds awfully like Richard E Grant.

A puzzled expression dawns on Loki’s face as he slowly sits up, as the voice adds: ‘But you will be unless you come with us.’

Richard then appears dressed in Loki’s classic Marvel comics costume seemingly as Old Man Loki… and he’s not alone.

The actor is joined by a young boy who seems to be Kid Loki, an alligator with Loki’s horns on its head and a man holding a hammer, potentially as a variant of Thor.

Behind them, the background features various destroyed buildings and street lamps in a state of disarray.

The arrival of these mysterious figures could mean that a team of variants are going to assemble to take down the TVA once and for all.

Furthermore, the fact that Loki has arrived at this location after being ‘pruned’ could also mean that anyone, or anything, that has been eliminated by the TVA in the past actually ended up here.

Could we therefore see Mobius make a triumphant return as the God of Mischief’s new right hand man?

Plus, will more people who have been pruned by the TVA in the past show up unexpectedly?

Loki returns on Wednesday and is available to watch on Disney Plus.
