Loose Women has confirmed Charlene White has officially replaced Andrea McLean as the show’s new anchor.
Andrea quit the ITV programme in November after 13 years at the helm, with Charlene making her grand debut on today’s show alongside Nadia Sawalha and Stacey Solomon.
The 40-year-old ITV newsreader, who had previously guest anchored in October as part of Loose Women’s first all-black lineup, is now a permanent fixture like Ruth Langsford and Christine Lampard.
Introducing Charlene to the series, Nadia beamed: ‘We’re all so happy you’re here!’
‘I’m very happy, thank you so much for having me ladies,’ Charlene replied.
Before the episode got underway, the hosts presented Charlene with a montage of all her best bits.
‘I’ve been waiting to do this show with you for ages,’ Stacey enthused. ‘Because you were so fantastic every time you’ve been in, we already have a montage of your best bits to show you.’
Charlene joined ITN as a newsreader in 2008, before becoming the first black woman to host ITV News at Ten in 2014.
In 2019, she was announced as lead presenter of ITV News London’s main 6pm programme, which she continues to present.
Charlene’s arrival comes weeks after Andrea’s exit.
‘I want to be brave,’ Andrea told viewers as she revealed she was leaving Loose Women.
‘It was a really big decision to jump and see if I fall or fly. You get one life. Are you living it the way that you want and are you doing everything that you want to do?
‘Are you taking chances? And I realised, no.’
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
