Loose Women viewers slam panel for implying public ‘forgives’ Prince Andrew following sexual assault lawsuit

Loose Women’s viewers blasted the panel for debating if Prince Andrew should be ‘forgiven’ following his sexual assault case.

In her civil case, Virginia Giuffre alleged she was forced to have sex with the Duke of York after being trafficked by his paedophile friend Jeffrey Epstein, who died in jail awaiting trial in 2019.

However, the royal paid his accuser Ms Roberts, formerly Giuffre, a reported £12million last month while protesting his innocence.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, recently claimed that Andrew is seeking to make amends and society should be more ‘open and forgiving.’

During Wednesday’s instalment of the programme, presenters Coleen Nolan, Janet Street-Porter, Brenda Edwards and Jane Moore touched on Welby’s claims, with Nolan saying forgiveness ‘has to come down to the victims themselves.’

‘It’s such a toxic soul-destroying thing to live with,’ she said.

‘The only person you’re damaging is yourself and sometimes I think it’s better to let it go, depending on the circumstances obviously.’

‘I watched the whole interview, and I think it’s a little misleading,’ Porter added.

‘He wasn’t asking us to forgive Prince Andrew, and what he did say was that as a society we have become more judgemental, and I do agree with that.

‘I do think we are unforgiving as a society. We have instant opinions on social media, but that’s not to diminish what Prince Andrew has been accused of, although never charged and never found guilty.’

Frustrated viewers quickly took to social media and shared their thoughts over the debate.

‘#LooseWomen being absolutely fuming about Kurt Zouma kicking a cat is understandable. But 15 minutes after asking if Prince Andrew should be forgiven and holding their tongues on that…?’ one person seethed.

‘Is your show for real @loosewomen forgive Andrew but Zouma is unforgivable? Jesus! Speaks volumes that!’ another added.

When asked to share her opinion, Edwards said: ‘The fact that he was associated with a known sex offender and he kept that friendship going and then the settlement. I think it’s hard for people to forgive something like that.

‘That’s why the forgiveness is not going to be forthcoming. If anyone has the right to ask for forgiveness it should be the victims and the families of the victims.’

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
