Loose Women’s Ruth Langsford shuts down claim Prince Harry is ‘hated’ in UK over police protection debate: ‘That’s a false statement’

Loose Women host Ruth Langsford was stunned at the idea that Prince Harry is ‘hated’ in the UK, despite the Royal’s fears that his family isn’t safe in his home country.

Harry, 38, has requested that the Metropolitan Police and Government’s Home Office sign off on providing him police protection so he can visit the UK with wife Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, and their children Archie and Lilibet.

The demand has sparked a debate on whether Harry and Meghan should be entitled to use security from the Met given they quit as senior Royals in 2020.

Discussing the controversy, Jane Moore said on the ITV programme on Monday: ‘You can’t have State-funded police protection officers for sale.’

Kelle Bryan weighed in: ‘But Jane, they’re dealing with both. They’re dealing with paparazzi attention and they’re also dealing with the safety of their children and their family. Remember they are hated in this country.’

This Morning star Ruth looked surprised while shutting down Kelle’s statement, saying: ‘I don’t think they’re hated in this country though. I think that’s quite a false statement that they’re hated here.’

Kelle clarified what she meant and said: ‘I’m saying everybody, I said some people and there’s a certain demographic of the population that feel umbraged towards them. He’s had death threats, he’s had all kinds of threats against his family.’

Jane, who earlier said it was Harry’s decision to become a private citizen after quitting Royal life, interjected: ‘Celebrities get death threats but they pay for their own private security, they don’t use State-funded security, that’s the difference,’ however Kelle reminded her that Harry has offered to pay for the security himself rather than the tax-payer.

The former Eternals singer had earlier defended the Duke of Sussex, saying: ‘What choice does he have? He’s got a family that’s vulnerable with him.’

Coleen Nolan said that while she would ‘hate for anything to happen to him’, she wishes Harry and Meghan would deal with their legal issues ‘quietly’.

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV.
