One of the stars of The Lord of the Rings has revealed that he made an extremely eerie prediction about the fantasy tale that actually came true with the upcoming launch of the Amazon series.
The Lord of the Rings film trilogy is regarded as one of the most epic in cinematic history, with the first of Peter Jackson’s three films, The Fellowship of the Ring, being released in 2001 and the last, The Return of the King, coming out two years later.
Sean Astin won over the hearts of cinemagoers around the world as Samwise Gamgee, a friend and companion of Elijah Wood’s Frodo Baggins who helped him in his quest to reach Mordor to destroy the Ring.
Two decades after The Lord of the Rings first hit the silver screen, an Amazon Prime Video series set in the Second Age of Middle-earth is in the works… something which Sean correctly guessed would happen.
During a recent interview with ComingSoon, the Stranger Things star said that he believes Amazon ‘was great to do it’.
‘I fully predicted in 2002, that it would be in 2020, 2021, that they would reboot it,’ he said.
‘I was specific about it and people asked how it could be so sure, and I said, “Because I have that foresight.”’
The actor explained that he knew that ‘in a generation’, people would ‘want to experience what they love again’.
He added that while some may question the need to remake classics, he has always been ‘one to support sequels and remakes and particularly classics’.
‘The good news is the classic will always remain. So maybe somebody will do something interesting, and if it stinks, don’t watch it,’ he stated.
‘But I have every expectation that this Lord of the Rings adaptation is going to be amazing.’
Sean praised the ‘really talented people’ working on the TV series, expressing his hope that it will remind TV viewers of the spectacle of the original film trilogy.
The upcoming show, which is set before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, has confirmed several actors in its cast, including Nazanin Boniadi to Owain Arthur.
The series, which is expected to be the most expensive of all time, appeared to wrap filming in December last year.
The Lord of the Rings TV series will air on Amazon Prime Video.
