Lorraine Kelly has voiced her sadness that Ed Sheeran would not perform at the King’s Coronation and will instead participate on American Idol.
The Shape Of You singer, 32, will fill in for Katy Perry as a judge on the ABC show when she travels to the United Kingdom to perform for King Charles this weekend, while Alanis Morissette will replace Lionel Richie.
It had previously been claimed that the Perfect singer, who is presently mired in a legal fight in New York, had rejected down the Coronation with another diva Adele due to scheduling issues.
On Wednesday’s Lorraine, the Scottish host sounded perplexed that Ed wouldn’t be there for the King’s celebrations due to his upcoming stay on American Idol.
‘I’d have assumed Ed would be at the concert, but…,’ Lorraine bemoaned, trailing off and shrugging.
According to reports, the King is’very keen’ for the Thinking Out Loud hitmaker and Adele to sing at the coronation since they are ‘titans of the showbiz business.’
A spokesman for Ed, on the other hand, stated that neither the actor nor his team had been ‘approached’ regarding a prospective performance.
Ed actually has a concert in Texas the day before the Coronation gig, so making the drive back home would be difficult (not to mention exhausting).
The Roar singer and Lionel will perform with Olly Murs, Take That, and Andrea Bocelli to commemorate the crowning of the King.
Katy spilled the beans on her preparations, including her enthusiasm about staying at the genuine Windsor Castle for the celebrations.
‘They said I was permitted to stay at Windsor Castle, which I’m incredibly pleased for,’ the Firework performer revealed, refusing to reveal her setlist or how much influence the Royals had over her performance.
‘I might be posting a lot because I’m going to be in a castle, for real. This is wild.’
The event, which is expected to draw 20,000 people, will take place on May 7 on the grounds of Windsor Castle and will be aired live on BBC for anyone who did not receive tickets.
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
