Lorraine Kelly hopes that Katie Price’s car accident was a ‘wake up call’, saying that the former glamour model was ‘lucky’ to survive.
On Tuesday, it was reported that Katie had been taken to hospital after she was involved in a single-vehicle collision near Partridge Green, according to The Sun.
The 43-year-old was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, with her family saying in a statement that their ‘worst fears nearly came true’.
Katie is believed to currently be banned from driving, having spoken on Good Morning Britain earlier this week about how she can’t drive to see her son Harvey until December.
On Wednesday’s edition of Lorraine, the TV host talked to GMB correspondent Nick Dixon about the incident, while he spoke from the scene of the accident in West Sussex.
Lorraine, 61, expressed her hope that Katie receives the help ‘she needs’, saying that she ‘could have killed herself’ in the accident.
After hearing from Nick, Lorraine said of Katie: ‘She was lucky. Shouldn’t have been behind the wheel, she could have killed herself or someone else.’
The TV presenter continued, stating: ‘I really hope that she does get the help that she clearly, clearly, needs. Maybe this is a wake up call, but what a horrible one.’
A statement released from Sussex Police said that the police ‘responded to reports of a single-vehicle collision on the B2135 near Partridge Green around 6.20am on Tuesday (September 28).
‘A woman, 43, was arrested on suspicion of driving while above the legal limit for alcohol and drugs, and has been taken to hospital to be checked over.
‘The road was blocked temporarily while recovery of the vehicle was arranged.’
Paramedics attended the scene, and confirmed one person was taken to hospital.
A South East Ambulance Service spokesman said: ‘I can confirm we were called at approximately 6.30am to reports of an RTC on the B2135 at Partridge Green.
‘One ambulance crew attended the scene and one person was assessed and treated before being taken to hospital.’
Carl Woods, Katie’s fiancé, supported the star in a statement shared on social media, writing: ‘Relationships are tested, people test each other – but when you love someone like I love Katie, you enjoy the highs and good times together, and that bond is tested during the low and difficult times together.’
He concluded by stating: ‘I love you Katie 100%. My Dolly, always here, always will be.’
Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
