Lorraine Kelly ‘relieved’ as ‘very high risk’ dad gets call for the Covid-19 vaccine

Lorraine Kelly is feeling ‘relieved’ after learning that her dad is getting the Covid-19 vaccine.

The ITV host spoke with Dr Hilary Jones on Tuesday’s Lorraine about the roll-out of the vaccine and the running of the vaccination centres.

‘It’s really good news that the vaccine continues to get rolled out,’ she began.

‘My dad got his call, he’s getting it tomorrow. I am so relieved that he’s going to get it as he is very high-risk.

‘Phew, so that’s starting to happen.’.

‘Absolutely, my 95 year old mother had it herself last week,’ Dr Hilary replied.

‘So 6.6 million vaccinations have now been carried out so 80% of the over 80s in this country.’

‘It’s really good,’ the GP added.

‘I know for a fact that the centres distributing the vaccines are so efficient.

‘Everyone I know, all my patients that have gone to these sites saying, “It’s so well organised, the marshalls are polite, they’re efficient, it’s on time, I wasn’t kept waiting around, I waited my 15 minutes and then left. The doctors are so careful with explaining everything to me”.’

Earlier this week it was reported that a further 32 vaccinations centres were being opened in England.

The new vaccination centres concentrated on offering jabs to health and social care staff on Monday, before opening their doors to other priority patients on Tuesday.

NHS England said hundreds of thousands of letters have already been sent out to people over the age of 80 in the vicinity of the new sites inviting them to book a jab.

In total, 5,861,351 people have been given a first dose of the vaccine, with 468,617 of those having had their second too.

Lorraine airs daily at 9am on ITV.
