Love Island 2021: Fans blast Laura Whitmore’s explanation for Kaz Kamwi and Tyler Cruickshank not being interviewed on reunion sofa

Love Island host Laura Whitmore has tried to calm things down after fans fumed over Kaz Kamwi and Tyler Cruickshank’s seating during the reunion episode, which aired on Sunday night.

The reunion brought back all the islanders – minus Jake Cornish, who was ill – from the 2021 series to chat about their time in the villa and life on the outside.

It included lovely footage of what Kaz and Tyler and the other final couples Faye Winter and Teddy Soares, Chloe Burrows and Toby Aromolaran and winners Millie Court and Liam Reardon have been up two since the show ended two weeks ago.

Kaz and Tyler were briefly interviewed by Laura while sat together in the audience as other islanders, such as Hugo Hammond and the four women he struggled to find romance with, sat on the main sofa.

Taking to Instagram on Monday afternoon the presenter said she was not in control of where anyone sits on the programme.

She added that Kaz had been invited to sit on the sofa for Toby’s ‘exes segment’ (the pair were briefly coupled up at one point) but chose not to.

She said: ‘Hundreds of people work on Love Island. My job is not to organise seating arrangements.

‘I barely know what seat I’m sitting in before the show as set changes so much.

‘We invited Kaz to sit with Toby for his exes segment but she didn’t want to and it’s her choice to make.

‘Everything is run through with the islanders before hand. It’s all about choice!’

In a later message she confessed that contestants were likely nervous, and unlike previous reunions were not allowed to drink.

‘If I see anyone giving s**t to our islanders, I will call you out,’ she finished off.

This didn’t fly with many viewers who pointed out that as the pair were in the final four couples they should have had their own segment dedicated to them, rather than finalist Kaz being reduced to an ex of Toby’s.

One viewer fumed: ‘So totally GLOSSING over the obvious question of why KAZ AND TYLER weren’t on the couch to talk about Kaz and Toby? Hunny nobody cared about Kaz being with with Toby we cared about the FINALISTS not being treated as the other FINALISTS. But whatever floats your boat.’

‘Were kaz & Tyler invited to the couch? Or you only invited her to the couch when it was time for her to be a part of Toby’s segment?’ another said.

‘Truth is we don’t care about the Toby’s exs segment. If you really wanted to address anything, it should have been the Kyler issue.’

One comment read: ‘But why was Kaz not invited to sit on stage with her boyfriend Tyler, just as Faye & Teddy did… nobody else sat with them???’

Another furious fan posted: ‘Very poor treatment of Kaz and Tyler confirmed. No automatic right got or choice for a place on the couch as a finalist couple who in fact got less air time.’

A further tweet read: ‘So she admits that Kaz (an OG and finalist islander) was invited up to the couch as a “side piece” to Toby’s journey but her and her mans were not invited up to the couch to discuss their own journey?’

Kaz and Tyler made their relationship official as a clip was shown during the reunion of Tyler finally asking Kaz to be his girlfriend.

Love Island is available to stream on ITV Hub.
