The pair contemplated life outside the show after leaving in dramatic style last week.
Speaking on Monday’s This Morning to presenters Eamonn Holmes, Ruth Langford and former Love Island star Amy Hart, Liberty said it was ‘fair to the others to leave’ when they did as they ‘weren’t getting on as we used to’.
‘Yeah obviously I do still love him,’ she said when discussing a possible future with Jake. ‘It is hard being around him. I do think I made the right decision because you’ve got to put your feelings first.’
Jake added: ‘Enough was enough. My head was in overdrive. It was so intense. We were at a wall.’
Discussing their relationship, the water engineer said: ‘I feel like it’ll be a lot easier on the outside. I don’t know yet… I’d like to think so.’

‘I’m feeling good. I definitely made the right decision,’ Liberty said. ‘There’s no animosity there. We get on really well.’
She added: ‘You can never say never because you don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. But for now we made the right decision.’
She added: ‘I still have love for him. But I wasn’t happy.’
‘My feelings haven’t changed for Liberty,’ Jake said. ‘It’s very raw, being away from each other I’ve missed her.’
A lot of different things were said. I think the energy was off,’ Liberty went on. ‘I felt like I was treading on eggshells. I just felt like we just weren’t getting on, so that’s why I called it off.
‘After we got out of the honeymoon phase, we did see things differently.’
Jake and Liberty shocked their fellow islanders by informing them that they were leaving on Friday, explaining they didn’t want to ‘take up a place’ in the villa and would rather the other couples enjoyed their final days.
Things had been rocky for them since Jake returned from Casa Amor, with Liberty telling him: ‘I just don’t feel like you love me for me and I want someone who loves me for me.’
The former Nandos waitress called Jake out over cruel digs, and said he didn’t love her the way she loved him. However, she still has feelings for him and would ‘never say never’ to reigniting their relationship in the outside world.
