Love Island 2021: Viewers baffled by Rachel Finni’s coq au vin blunder

Love Island viewers have been left stunned by newcomer Rachel Finni, who made a mistake when she asked Brad McLelland if he can cook coq au vin.

Sunday’s episode of Love Island teased fans yet again with a cliffhanger ending as new girl Rachel prepared to choose between Chuggs Wallis and Brad.

Just as Chloe Burrows’ decision was delayed from Tuesday’s episode to Wednesday – which saw her choose to couple up with Aaron Francis – Rachel was tasked with choosing between Chuggs and Brad after 24 hours on the show.

And the one left single afterwards will be dumped from the island.

During Sunday night’s episode, the new addition to the villa took the time to get to know Brad.

The luxury travel specialist asked Brad if he was a good cook, and proceeded to ask him if he could cook coq au vin.

‘I haven’t even heard of that,’ Brad admitted.

‘Wow, there’s gonna be problems here,’ Rachel replied, and Brad asked again: ‘What is that?’

Rachel confidently asserted that coq au vin is duck with wine but viewers quickly took to Twitter to point out it was actually made with chicken.

‘Why has Rachael on Love Island just so confidently said a Coq Au Vin is duck in wine sauce when it’s defo chicken,’ one person tweeted.

‘Did Rachel really just ridicule Brad for not knowing what coq au vin is, and then say that it means duck and wine in French?’ asked another.

Another fan added: ‘THIS IS WHY I LOVE LOVE ISLAND! Trying to be a smart a**e and ripping someone for not knowing what coq au vin is and then getting it wrong yourself.’

Rachel has the tricky decision of who she wants to couple up with in the villa.

Brad was crowned the sexiest wannabe 007 in the James Bond-themed Undercover Love challenge, which saw the boys strip to thongs, perform a sexy dance for their partner and undo the ribbons tying their girl to a board with their teeth, all the while being covered in slime and powder.

They then had to carry the girls to vibrating mats and make a cocktail of their choice before sealing things with a kiss.

It remains to be seen if that was enough to turn Rachel’s head, as the Islanders like to say.

Love Island continues tonight on ITV2 at 9pm.
