We’ve reached peak Love Island (Picture: ITV)
After a shock dumping which saw Shannon Singh leave the villa after just two days, it was confirmed that two new boys, Liam Reardon and Chuggs Wallis, would be coming in to shake up the villa.
And it was Chuggs’ intro that set Twitter ablaze, not only because of his name, but his VT intro, in which he said: ‘I’m Chuggs, I’m 23 and I run a bucket hat business in Surrey.’
Sorry Jack Fincham, your professional pen salesman bio has been topped.
While it may sound like a sentence formed from picking random words from a Love Island tombola, Chuggs – whose real name is Oliver – is the founder of the personalised bucket hat company called, wait for it, Booby Buckets.
The 23-year-old started the business in June 2020, after he graduated from Oxford Brookes University.
Chuggs previously told The Tab that he began making the bucket hats after designing his own for a pub crawl earlier in the year.
He said: ‘Whilst doing so I thought I might may as well ask the rugby boys at uni if they too would like some customised bucket hats. I have played rugby for both Brookes Union and league 1st teams so knew the lads well. They were very keen and so I put in an order for them.’
Chuggs then starting making the personalised hats for other teams, and said: ‘I’ve always been entrepreneurial, and this is the one I have taken the furthest so far.’
The website for Booby Buckets explains that the hats are made from ‘premium 100% cotton materials’ and that they work with a ‘team of embroidery and printing experts with over 20 years of experience’.
The reversible bucket hats retail at £22.95, with the corduroy option costing £24.95, while Booby Buckets also sells caps, beanie hats and boonies.
As for the name Booby Buckets, it isn’t something that was come up with in a fit of giggles on a night out with the lads.
‘Booby’ is in reference to the Blue Footed Booby Bird, which is the logo of the business, and the business is a charity partner of the Galapagos Conservation Trust which aims to protect the animals of the islands, including the Booby Bird.
The Galapagos Conservation Trust confirmed to Metro.co.uk that Booby Buckets is one of their corporate partners, and it is claimed Booby Buckets donated ‘a percentage of profits from the sales of Limited Edition products to the trust’.
A year after starting the company, Chuggs is now looking for love in Majorca, and said ahead of entering the villa: ‘just feel like it’s now or never. I’m only 23 but I’m scared of ageing. Especially as half of my last year of uni was taken away and we had so many fun plans.
‘With Covid and the pandemic, I feel like I’ve missed a year of my youth, so I’m really gagging to get it all back – make the most of it.’
When asked what he’s looking for in a partner, Chuggs said: ‘I need someone to be my best mate. I need someone who is going to muck in with my brothers, my family. I’ve got a mate who has a girlfriend, she plays rugby, golf.. everything with us. She’s great, she gets involved. I want something like that.’
He’s currently got his eye on Liberty Poole, Chloe Burrows and Faye Winter – so maybe he’ll throw in a free bucket hat to seal the deal.
