Love Island superfan Margot Robbie explains why she’s ‘struggling’ to get into 2021 series

Margot Robbie, a self-professed Love Island superfan, has confessed that she’s finding it hard to get into the current series of the ITV2 dating show, although she still ‘adores’ it.

Over the past few years, Suicide Squad star Margot has frequently shared her passion for Love Island, recently throwing a 31st birthday party themed around the ITV programme.

Just last year, the A-list actor was fangirling while hanging out with former stars of the series, having a blast with Michael Griffiths, Lucie Donlan and Jordan Hames at the London premiere for Birds of Prey.

However, after a hiatus from Love Island after last year’s cancellation due to the pandemic, Margot admitted on Lorraine that she hasn’t ‘really gotten into’ the 2021 show.

While being interviewed alongside her Suicide Squad co-star Idris Elba, Margot said that she ‘adores Love Island so much’, a love that she shares with the writer and director of the DC film, James Gunn.

‘He’s also a huge Love Island fan and we would talk about it all the time. We probably spoke about Love Island more than we spoke about this film when we were on set, we had our drink bottles on set,’ she said.

While Margot previously said that she wants Liberty Poole to win, she added that she’s not massively into the 2021 show as of yet.

‘The current season, I haven’t really gotten into it yet, I’m struggling to get into it this season, but you know, it’s still early days and with the lag time of when you get the episodes in America, so I’m a little behind, but I adore it. I adore the show,’ she said.

During a recent interview when Margot threw her support behind Liberty, the actor remarked that ‘it’s incredible how much you care about these people you have never met’.

Despite her love for Love Island, the Hollywood star also told The Mirror that in her own personal life, she’s ‘glad’ that she ‘found love the conventional way’.

In December 2016, Margot married her husband, assistant director Tom Ackerley, in a private ceremony in Australia.

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV. Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
