Love Island’s Davide Sanclimenti left plenty of viewers unimpressed after comparing his connection with Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu to ‘expired food’.

Davide and Ekin-Su have been getting their flirt on in the villa after their explosive split, which saw Ekin-Su turning her head to Jay Younger.

While many, including Ekin-Su herself, reckon there’s still something between them, Davide couldn’t have been more clear that their romance is over.

Asked if they have ‘unfinished business’, Davide explained: ‘No, i just feel – i don’t know. It’s not going in a romantic way.’

Clearly needing to make his point further, he added: ‘It’s expired. Like food expiry’.

Davide, who’s now coupled up with Antigone, shut down any suggestions that there’s still something there between him and Ekin-Su (Picture: ITV)

It was a comparison that fans didn’t exactly expect, with many left shocked. While some found it funny, others branded it ‘vile’.

‘Ekin-Su needs to get over Davide quick. Imagine liking a guy who said you’re expired,’ one said, while another added: ‘expired food?????? yeah naa forget ekin and davide getting back together.’

‘Ngl that’s a horrible way to describe a woman. Expired??? That’s disgusting’ another said, while another went on: ‘If someone ever called me expired food, I’ll have to fight them.’

‘Referring to a woman as ‘expired’ is actually vile. how do you people like davide he’s so nasty #LoveIsland,’ another unimpressed viewer said.

Elsewhere, Monday’s episode of Love Island saw major drama, as Ekin-Su and Gemma Owen got embroiled in a tense row.

Dami Hope suggested to Gemma that her head could be turned if another boy came in, with Gemma telling him he’s ‘not far wrong’.

Working overtime to bring us great TV, Ekin-Su immediately informed Jacques O’Neill and Paige Thorne about what Gemma said, with it quickly getting back to Luca.

Safe to say, things majorly kicked off, with Luca and Gemma’s future together left uncertain.

Love Island continues Tuesday at 9pm on ITV2.
