Love Island 2021 winner Millie Court has revealed how self-conscious she was over her acne during the peak of Covid-19, admitting she used masks as an excuse to cover her face.

The 24-year-old influencer has opened up about her insecurities, revealing how vulnerable she felt due to her skin condition.

Before her newly found fame from ITV’s popular dating show, Millie used to work as a fashion buyer for ASOS who she has now signed a deal with.

Despite the fame and following from 1.9million fans on Instagram, the former-fashion-student has spoken up about her struggles finding confidence in her own skin, and her determination to never allow other women to feel insecure in the same way.

Sharing her struggles with acne and feeling as though she had to hide behind a mask, Millie told Metro.co.uk: ‘I always felt like I was a very, very confident person.

‘When my acne came, definitely my confidence lowered, and I was embarrassed, and I felt shy to go outside.

‘Then Covid hit and we were wearing masks and I could use a mask to cover my face.

‘That’s how unconfident I was, that I felt like I could go out because a mask was covering me so nobody could see me.

‘That’s the reason why I’m trying now to make people feel confident about their skin because I know how low I was.’

She added: ‘A lot of people on Instagram are tied to this perfect, perfect and they have this beauty standard, and I think where I have struggled in the past with my acne and things like that I’ve now come on to Instagram to promote that not everyone’s skin is perfect.

‘You’re beautiful just the way you are, you don’t have to have flawless skin to be beautiful and feel ‘like a confident, empowered woman.’

Now having the platform to reach to thousands of girls and women who may be struggling with their own self-esteem and confidence issues, Millie admitted sharing her insecurities with her Instagram following has prompted the idea of women empowerment to ‘resonate with [her] more than maybe what it did.’

‘I’ve always been female empowered,’ she said.

‘Now I have this platform I want to make sure I’m giving back and making other women feel empowered as well.

‘It’s quite nice to have this and be able to pop things up on my Instagram, posts up, and make other women feel that way, empowered and feeling good, and feeling that they can achieve what they want to achieve and have that aspiration of going for your goals.’

Working to empower women using her tool of fashion, Millie has collaborated with PUMA as an ambassador to support the PUMA Women’s She Moves Us campaign.

The campaign, which features the international stars Winnie Harlow, Cara Delevigne and Dua Lipa, celebrates women moving together in sport, culture and values, inspiring women with pride, confidence and strength.

Millie and her boyfriend Liam Reardon, a 22-year-old bricklayer from Wales, won Love Island last year, and decided to split the £50,000 cash prize.

Now, almost one year later, the couple have moved into their first home together in Millie’s hometown in Essex.

The pair had their fair share of drama on the show, but came out stronger than ever, and beat runners-up Chloe and Toby Aromolaran to the crown, who may not have got their hands on the cash prize, but are still happily loved-up.

Millie’s collaboration with PUMA on the newest edition in their Cali Dream line, The Triple White, is available to buy on Asos.
