Love Island star Zara McDermott has recounted the horrible sexual assault she was subjected to after she was attacked by a ‘schoolboy’ in a brazen daylight attack.

The reality TV star revealed she was ‘almost raped’ four years ago, after she was pinned against a wall by a person she believed to be a ‘schoolboy’, who had followed her beforehand.

Recalling the horrific moment for BBC documentary series, Zara McDermott: Uncovering Rape Culture, the Made In Chelsea star said: ‘The guy followed me from the High Street. It felt like he was from school because I felt like I could see uniform. He had a really freckly face, a really boyish face.

‘He was getting closer and closer and that’s when I started to feel a little bit scared. I could hear him shouting things at me.’

Twenty-four-year-old Zara said her attacker stopped only when passers-by came to her rescue, with the assault taking place before she found fame on ITV2 dating show Love Island.

Zara added the attacker continued to threaten her as he fled.

She went on, as first reported by The Sun: ‘I was just so shocked at how forceful he was considering he was like he couldn’t even have been 15.’

Saying she reported the attack to police but the perpetrator was never found, Zara added she’s never been able to forget her ordeal. She’s since used her experience to look into sex crimes among youngsters for the Beeb doco.

In it, Zara uncovers a ‘rape culture’ raging in Britain’s schools and asks what needs to change, recalling for the first time her own assault, and speaking to young women and girls about their experience of rape culture and these toxic behaviours in both state and private schools.

The star previously released a documentary with the broadcaster about revenge porn and how she discovered that nude photos of her were posted online.

In Zara’s previous documentary, in one clip she can be seen breaking down in tears as she recalled ‘wanting to die’ when the images circulated online, only finding out about the pictures the day after she left Love Island.

‘The night I left the villa, I was obviously feeling super emotional,’ she began.

‘I woke up the following morning by a knock at the door and it was the press officer. “Someone has shared some images of you and they’ve been circulating pretty much worldwide since you’ve been in the villa”.

‘I can’t even tell you that feeling, to feel like your parents are ashamed of you.’

‘It was so embarrassing,’ Zara sobbed. ‘I just wanted to die.’

Zara McDermott: Uncovering Rape Culture is available on BBC Three via BBC iPlayer from Wednesday November 24.
