A man is lucky to be alive after he fell 200ft down a mountain during a second date.
Alec Maguire and Emma Hunt, who met on the dating app Plenty of Fish, decided to go on a hike at the Lake District last week when things took a turn for the worst.
The couple were hiking up Blencathra Peak when Alec lost his footing and slipped.
The 41-year-old ended up fracturing his spine after the fall and will be off work for six months.
The couple were saved by volunteers from Keswick Mountain Rescue Team, and Alec was air-lifted to hospital after the five-hour ordeal.
Speaking to Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford on Friday’s This Morning about the incident, Emma began: ‘I don’t climb in bad weather and we were forecast good weather (on the day).’
Alec told the hosts that as they were climbing the mountain he had a ‘sixth sense’ about going to the top.
He explained: ‘I was trying to compose myself, but Emma said: “Keep going to the top”. I just had a sixth sense and thought if I keep going to the top, it’s just a sheer drop.
‘So instinctively I thought I am going to descend and go down the other bit.’
‘So we decided to descend down the side of the sharp edge,’ Emma chipped in.
‘We were about half-way down and that’s where Alec took his tumble.’
‘I lost my footing and it was quite an experience living in fear after that 60-metre fall,’ Alec added.
‘That was a noble way to get a date,’ Eamonn joked.
After being released from Glasgow hospital, Alec decided to move in with Emma and her children in Preston while he is in recovery.
He has even promised to take Emma out for dinner when he’s feeling better.
That’s definitely a safer bet for a date Alec!
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
