Martin Lewis has received an outpouring of support following his farewell speech to the public before the end of the year.
In 2012, the 51-year-old financial journalist and broadcaster launched and subsequently sold his website MoneySavingExpert.com for around £87 million.
That same year, he co-hosted The Martin Lewis Money Show and is now a regular on the morning shows Good Morning Britain and This Morning.
He’s shared lots of money-saving tips and methods throughout the years, but he’s taking a new approach this holiday season.
Martin stated in a letter to his social media followers that he was looking forward to taking a vacation after recently acknowledging that the burden of being a trusted voice in the UK was “very difficult to manage.”
‘I’m signing off social media now and going to spend the next couple of weeks chilling, and focusing on family,’ he began.
‘So, this is, hopefully, my last post of 2023. I’d like to wish all who celebrate a joyous, peaceful, & warm-hearted Christmas and happy New Year.’
He added: ‘For those who find this time of year grief-filled, lonely or a struggle may your passage through it, be easy, with more smiles than you expect.’
His message saw him receive plenty of support from fans, with many wishing him a Merry Christmas and others praising his ‘excellent advice over the past year’.
‘Thank you for everything you do,’ one person commented.
‘I’m one of those that seriously struggle as I’m completely on my own and December is an extremely nasty month in general for me so thank you for your kind words,’ someone else shared.
Another added: ‘Thank you for all you do to help and inform everyone about various matters, you are a SUPERSTAR.’
Despite being a beloved public figure, Martin recently spoke about how while people see him as an ‘incredibly robust’ figure due to the way he comes across on TV, he was ‘quite a brittle person’.
Lewis characterised the burden of being one of the country’s most trusted voices as ‘horrendous’ and ‘terrible’ during an interview on BBC Radio 4’s The Media Show.
‘It’s an incredible compliment, but I find it very difficult,’ he said.
‘I have my dark days mental health-wise.’
He went on to add that breathing exercises, walking, and ‘great quantities of exercise’ helped him deal.
The Martin Lewis Money Show is streaming on ITVX.
