Martin Roberts overjoyed to get back to work on Homes Under The Hammer after lifesaving emergency heart operation

Martin Roberts has revealed he has been cleared to return to work on Homes Under The Hammer after undergoing emergency surgery after being left ‘hours from death’ due to fluid on his heart.

The presenter, 58, underwent a life-saving heart operation in April after suffering chest pains and being told he would have had just ‘hours to live’ if he hadn’t sought medical attention.

Martin revealed he had ‘massive amounts’ of fluid around his heart which was stopping it from working, but thankfully things appear to be looking up for him after an emergency operation.

He has been recovering for the past few weeks, but excitedly informed fans that he is now going to go back to work on Homes Under The Hammer.

Martin told his followers in an emotional video on Instagram: ‘So I’ve got some news and it’s actually pretty amazing news.

‘Today is a very special day, it’s quite an emotional day to be honest because I’ve spoken to the doctors and they’ve said as long as I take it easy – which isn’t necessarily that easy for me but I’ve got to – as long as I take it easy, I’m ok to start work.

‘So I am back today filming Homes Under The Hammer. I’m in the valleys of Wales and I never thought I’d be so happy to see a two-up two-down terrace.’

Martin was then overcome with emotion as he kissed the brickwork of a house, adding: ‘I have missed this so much, it’s amazing to be back.’

He also dedicated his loud floral shirt as a thank-you to the fans who had flooded him with support after the medical emergency.

Martin previously revealed that he was having to slow down after his heart operation, but is determined to fulfil at least 20 years on the property show.

He told The Sun: ‘I like being on the go, I’ve been presenting Homes Under The Hammer for 19 years and I’m determined to make it to 20, next May.

‘There are still so many things I want to achieve, but I know I have to take things slowly from now on.’
