MasterChef: The Professionals have sparked a mystery after a contestant was edited out of the show.

In the latest heat of the cooking competition, judges Gregg Wallace, Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti were seen putting the latest hopefuls to the test in a series of challenges.

However, after the show was filmed, one of the four contestants was removed from the final cut, with fans immediately questioning why.

Ahead of the show airing, a screen with a statement explained: ‘This programme has been edited and features three of the original four contestants who took part.’

In a statement released to Metro.co.uk, a representative for the show added: ‘Due to unforeseen circumstances concerning one of our contestants, the programme was edited to remove their appearance.’

Sources from the show added to us that the chef was not cut from the competition due to a clash with Marcus, with rumours online being ‘categorically untrue’.

As a result of the edit, Guillame from London, Burhan from Coventry and Scott from Manchester competed as normal, with only glimpses of the mystery chef, believed to be a man, was shown.

During the episode, the four competitors were split in two for a skills set test – with Monica testing one half of the group and Marcus putting the other half through their paces.

They then had to prepare a two-course signature meal, with a main and dessert showing off their capabilities and impress the judges.

Scott was sent packing after the latest tasks, with the others now fighting for a spot in the quarter-finals.

Celebrity MasterChef airs Tuesdays at 9pm on BBC One.
