Maura Higgins pokes fun at epic fail that lost contestant £10,000 on Michael McIntrye’s The Wheel

Love Island star Maura Higgins has finally addressed the moment she gut-wrenchingly lost a contestant £10,000 while starring on Michael McIntyre’s new show The Wheel.

The BBC series sees a host of celebrities sit on the wheel as experts in a subject of their choice, as contestants call on them for their knowledge in order to nail down correct answers to questions that come with a big money prize.

Maura had appeared on Saturday night’s program, with her chosen subject being Ireland – her home country.

Liverpudlian Barrie was on the show to try and win some cash to take his family off to Florida, but his dreams of banking £10,000 were dashed when Maura failed to help him correctly answer which Irish country Tipperary was further away from.

Brushing off the embarrassing mishap, however, Maura entertained fans as she poked fun at herself on Instagram on Sunday.

She shared a snap of herself soaking up the sun in Dubai and commented: ‘I’m a long way from Tipperary,’ adding a (rather apt) face-plant emoji.

Maura’s boyfriend Christopher Taylor found the whole thing pretty funny as he comment with several crying laughing emoji and teased: ‘Caption.’

Her followers were just as amused, with one fan commenting: ‘That was some blunder.’

Another teased: ‘At least you can laugh it out girl,’ while one follower posted: ‘I was laughing so much last night lol.’

The answers given by the generator were either Dublin, Cork, Limerick or Donegal, with Maura convinced the correct answer was Cork – after first thinking it was Donegal.

‘I am going to be ashamed of my life, I will never be let back into Ireland,’ she joked, as she tried to settle on an answer.

Maura was one of the celebrity experts on Saturday night’s episode of The Wheel, alongside the likes of Alison Hammond, Gareth Malone, Tony Blackburn.

Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel continues Saturday at 8.20pm on BBC One.
