Michelle Visage revealed she battled a secret painful injury while competing on Strictly Come Dancing, without missing a step.
The RuPaul’s Drag Race favourite appeared on the BBC One series in 2019, and was partnered with Giovanni Pernice.
The pair managed to get to week nine of the competition, with Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse going on to take the crown.
However, appearing on Lorraine, the 53-year-old confessed that she hid a painful injury from viewers so that she could stay on the show – and was actually taken to hospital at one point.
‘I injured myself on the launch show, I had an MRI and the doctor that did was like, “She’s fine!” I wasn’t fine, I needed surgery,’ she recalled.
‘Nonetheless I didn’t want anybody to know, I didn’t want the judges to know, because I would’ve had a target on my back. So I did the whole thing with a torn meniscus for 12 weeks.’
Michelle underwent surgery as soon as the season ended, and doctors cleared her to dance again two weeks later.
Following her recovery, she has begged bosses to let her have another attempt at the Glitterball trophy.
‘I’m begging to this day,’ she continued. ‘I talk to the executives and say, “Can I please come back?” They’re like, you went to week 10 so no you can’t come back.
‘I feel like it would have been different if I didn’t have an injury.
‘I had it all bandaged up. Gio and I didn’t want anybody to know that I was injured because they maybe would’ve got rid of me. So who knows?
‘The audience might have been like, “She’s injured, let her go home.” I didn’t want that.’
Petition for an All-Stars series so that Michelle can compete again, anyone?
