Lennox Lewis has revealed Mike Tyson text to warn him that Piers Morgan is ‘so boring’ before his Good Morning Britain interview.
The 54-year-old boxer caused a stir last month with his own awkward appearance on the ITV breakfast show as he mumbled his words, gave very brief answers, appeared drowsy and even closed his eyes.
Referencing the chat on Monday morning, Piers told Lewis: ‘The last heavyweight champ we spoke to was Mike Tyson, it looked like he fell asleep half way through our interrogation.’
Susanna quipped: ‘Please don’t do that.’
Piers added: ‘Can I just confirm that you are wide awake?’
Former heavyweight champion Lewis confirmed he was awake and alert, and revealed the Baddest Man On The Planet actually offered some amusing words of advice.
‘I am wide awake,’ he said. ‘[Tyson] actually sent me a text and said “are you going on Piers’ show?”
‘I said “yes” and he said, “that guy is boring, you’ll have to drink some Marley Coffee”. So I said “OK, I’m going to drink some Marley coffee for you.” ‘
Tyson has addressed the interview after he left viewers concerned with his standoffish appearance on GMB.
Taking to Twitter, the sportsman explained how he’s currently in Los Angeles (which is eight hours behind the UK) and had stayed up extremely late to appear on the show.
‘Hey mate @piersmorgan @GMB @susannareid100 and UK. I tried to stay up late for interview but fell asleep and like a lion I’m hard to wake once asleep,’ he wrote.
‘Training hard and going to bed early. I had no monitor so I couldn’t see you guys and forgot to look into camera.’
Piers was quick to reply, as he shared the message on his own feed while adding: ‘No problem, Champ. We could see you were a bit weary! It was very late in LA.
‘Appreciate this message as some viewers were concerned.’
Tyson was on the show to promote his upcoming fight against Roy Jones Jr, seeing him throw up a number of peace signs when he connected to Piers and Susanna.
When he was asked about the concerns raised about men over 50 fighting in the ring, the legendary boxer appeared to ignore the question.
Instead of giving an answer, he replied: ‘I think it’s very wonderful that we’re fighting together. It’s a fight that we should’ve had sooner, but unfortunately, we’re having it now and that’s going to be awesome.’
Piers then asked his guest about the fight, to which he responded: ‘Pretty much, I am just ready to do this, I feel really good, I am ready to do this.’
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am on ITV.
