Miriam Margolyes had Phillip Schofield in stitches this week as she recalled an ‘exhausting’ foray into sex tapes early in her career, and was soon trending because of it – but it’s hardly the first time she’s been frank about the intimate times.
The Harry Poter star appeared on This Morning on Thursday and spoke about vaccinations before talk soon turned to her early acting jobs, with Phil prodding Miriam to tell viewers all about her previous work.
With no hesitation Miriam described making a few sex tapes – audio, we should note – as she relayed the headache-inducing work of faking orgasms for entertainment.
After Miriam spoke about her role as the original voice of the Cadbury bunny, Phil said: ‘Didn’t you possibly get that job out of a couple of other tapes that you might have done before that were slightly less family orientated?’
Saying she was ‘supposed to very careful this morning on this show’ and was warned by a producer not to say ‘anything nasty’, Phil insisted she was allowed to be naighty.
She went on: ‘I did a couple of sex tapes. Sexy Sonia: Leaves From My Schoolgirl Diary, that was one of them.

‘But I have to stress, they were audio tapes. They were not visual.
‘And they were very exhausting, because when you’re simulating orgasm, as all of you out there know, it’s tiring, and you get a headache. It’s not a question of having a headache at the beginning, you get a headache at the end.
‘So I haven’t done them again. I did the Cadbury bunny instead, and made a lot more money – because I only got paid £300 in those days.’
She added: ‘It was at the Ann Summers sex shop. I expect you know it well. That’s where I auditioned.’
While Holly Willoughby and Phil may have been left in stitches by Miriam’s hilarious tales this week, it’s not the first time the incredibly honest star has been candid about sex and her thoughts on it.
Appearing on Louis Theroux’s Grounded with… podcast last year, not only did Miriam reveal she believes she experienced sexual pleasure for the first time aged three, describing a ‘frictionless’ orgasm, but she also insisted lesbians have better sex than straight women as the pair dove into explicit chat.
She explained: ‘Because we sleep with our sex and we know what to do with our hands and our bodies. And men have only got a prick to deal with poor souls. I can’t imagine what it must be like.
‘I mean, what happens to the balls if you’re inside a woman? Where do the balls go?’
As Louis asked betwee gritted teeth: ‘Do you want an answer to that?’ Miriam replied: ‘Not really.’
Elsewhere in the podcast she also recounted an experience at Edinburgh Fringe when she says she found a soldier pleasuring himself up a tree…
Still, while she may be open about the conversation, she later spoke to Fabulous magazine and added that she doesn’t have sex.
She said: ‘I don’t have sex at all.
‘I think about it a bit and I talk about it a bit, but I don’t have it.’
