Monsters at Work: New Disney Plus release date is announced as Mike and Sulley rise ranks in trailer

The release date has been announced for upcoming Disney Plus launch Monsters at Work, with a new trailer starring Mike and Sulley being launched for the sequel series.

Monsters at Work, a continuation of the 2001 Pixar film Monsters, Inc, will see John Goodman and Billy Crystal reprise their roles as lovable monsters James P Sullivan and Michael Wazowski respectively.

Following the events of the classic animated adventure, which somehow came out 20 years ago, the Monsters Inc factory is now in the business of making children laugh, rather than scaring them.

This is a cause of dismay for newcomer Tylor Tuskmon (Ben Feldman), who has trained as a Scarer in the hopes of joining their ranks.

Now that Tylor’s dreams of becoming a Scarer are dashed, he’s placed with a new team instead – Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team, otherwise known as ‘MIFT’.

While Monsters at Work was initially scheduled to launch on Disney Plus on Friday July 2, it’s now been announced that the release date has been changed to Wednesday July 7.

In the new trailer, Mike and Sulley are greeted in an office in the factory by slug-like monster Roz (Bob Peterson), who informs them that they’ve been put in charge of operations.

Tylor, meanwhile, is tasked with helping his team ‘maintain’ any machines in need of maintenance – which we get the impression there may be a lot of.

In one scene, a fault results in a blackout at the factory, before returning to the former Scare Floor, where all hell appears to have broken loose.

‘Nobody will ever speak of this again. Nobody saw nothing,’ a monster tells Tylor, who begins to protest before being interrupted.

Other new cast members include Mindy Kaling as energetic monster Val, who reveals that she and Tylor went to college together, and Henry Winkler as Fritz, Tylor’s friendly but scatty boss.

Despite initially being disappointed that he can’t work as a Scarer, the trailer ends with Tylor proudly donning a Monsters, Inc hard hat, while also donning a lanyard around his neck.

Looks like he’s going to find his feet after all!

Prior to Monsters at Work, in 2013 Monsters University was released, a prequel to the original film.

Monsters University follows Mike and Sulley when they first meet at college, with the pair initially butting heads before developing their close friendship.

Monsters at Work is due to premiere on Disney Plus on Wednesday July 7.
