Vikings: Valhalla has been cancelled by Netflix after three seasons.
Another fan favourite, which initially broadcast in February 2022 and became a fan fave, has been cancelled before of the impending third season.
The drama has chronicled the mythical lives of explorer Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), Nordic prince Harold Sigurdsson (Leo Suter), and Leif’s sister Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gastavsson) for several seasons.
Unfortunately, the latest news means that the journey will come to an end in 2024 with what will now be the last season, and co-creator Jeb Stuart is ‘grateful’ for the time he’s spent working on the project.
‘I am very pleased to have had three seasons to tell the stories of Leif, Harald, and Freydis,’ he said in a statement to Variety.
‘I knew from the beginning that I wanted to show the evolution of how three of the most famous Vikings became the icons we know today and we have done just that.’
He also stated that he wants fans to savour the ‘new heights’ attained by the protagonists in the forthcoming episodes.
‘I hope when the audience gets to see the new season, they’ll be excited by all the new heights that we’ve taken these heroes,’ he said.
‘When we started this project 5 years ago, I worked hard with this incredible cast and crew to craft a journey that we all hoped would be satisfying.’
Fans have been left devastated, with some even threatening to unsubscribe in reaction to the news.
‘I might cancel my subscription,’ wrote one viewer, while another added: ‘Vikings Valhalla cancelled? That was my silly little show.’
And someone else said: ‘Only three seasons? That’s annoying.’
Vikings: Valhalla is returning to Netflix for its third and final season in 2024.
