After Ratched was officially cancelled, Netflix fans are gutted.
The series, which premiered on the streaming service in 2020, was based on the 1962 novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and revolved around Nurse Ratched, played by Sarah Paulson.
The prequel series, produced by Ryan Murphy of American Horror narrative, was set in 1947 and chronicled the narrative of Mildred Ratched before she became the cold-hearted mental health nurse depicted in the novel.
Although a second season was once planned, it has already been stated that this will not happen.
After four years, Paulson announced the news to a fan outside the stage entrance of her Broadway show Appropriate, who recorded the encounter and shared it on social media.
When asked if another season was on its way, she simply replied: ‘No.’.
Despite the fact that the news was not shocking, many fans of the series were devastated to learn that their expectations for another season were no longer alive.
‘Ratched officially being cancelled depresses me no one talk to me,’ Rachel Ciccone posted on X.
‘Sarah Paulson, thank you for not giving us false hope. I’m also sad because Ratched was a banger,’ Tyler shared.
User Seny wrote they were ‘holding on to hope for the longest time’ that the show would be back on screens soon.
Toni Torrelli added: ‘THEY CANCELLED RATCHED!! Yeah, I’m never subscribing ever again.’
However, Clara pointed out: ‘It came out FOUR YEARS AGO. I had assumed it was already cancelled. You cannot have these long stretches between seasons and still expect audiences to care.’
Others said they were ‘under the impression it was a limited series’ anyway.
Sharon Stone, Cynthia Nixon, Finn Wittrock, Jon Jon Briones, Charlie Carver, Judy Davis, Harriet Harris, Hunter Parrish, Amanda Plummer, Corey Stoll, Sophie Okonedo, and Vincent D’Onofrio all appeared in the genesis narrative.
After its first season, the programme received four Emmy nominations, including Best Guest Actress for Sophie, who played Charlotte Wells, a patient with dissociative identity disorder.
