The Night Agent was Netflix’s most viewed programme at the beginning of 2023, and fans are now asking everyone who hasn’t seen it to do so right away.
The thriller series, starring Gabriel Basso and Luciane Buchanan, was identified as the streaming giant’s main success story in their most recent viewership stats, which span the months of January to June.
Between March 23 and the end of June, a remarkable 812 million hours of the first series were devoured.
That’s a lot of eyeballs and time spent on the sofa, and the show’s appeal is understandable for those who have seen all ten episodes.
Fans of the programme, which is Netflix’s sixth-most-watched series of all time, have long praised it on social media.

We may not have got series two yet, which was confirmed in March, but AJ Kerbel is amongst those already thinking ahead: ‘The Night Agent keeps getting better with each passing episode and season. I really hope this show is getting renewed for a third season.’

Without giving too much away for those of you who aren’t among the 812 million, the series follows FBI Agent Peter Sutherland [Gabriel], who becomes involved in a big conspiracy involving a mole in the United States government.
He must uncover the traitor while also defending former tech CEO Rose Larkin [Luciane] from the wicked guys who murdered her family members in order to preserve the nation.
The new report entitled What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report is a new offering which will allow us to spy on other subscribers’ viewing habits, with Netflix promising to provide the statistics twice per year.
Ginny and Georgia’s second season, with 665 million hours, and The Glory’s first season, with 622 million, rounded out the top three Netflix programmes.
Wednesday season one (507 million), Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (503 million), You season four (440 million), La Reina del Sur season three (403 million), Outer Banks season three (403 million), Ginny and Georgia season one (302 million), and Fubar season one (266 million) rounded out the top ten.
Another remarkable series was Harry & Meghan, which accumulated 62 million hours in the first six months, which is outstanding given that it debuted in December. The first season of Suits, starring Meghan Markle as Rachel Zane, surpassed them with 129 million hours.
Despite first airing 23 years ago, the first season of Gilmore Girls received 82 million viewing hours.
Emily in Paris season three (161 million hours), Black Mirror season six (140 million hours), and Sex/Life season two (175 million hours) are all popular series.
Not only were shows featured in the 4000-strong list, but Netflix also disclosed how films performed, with You People (181 million hours) starring Jonah Hill and Lauren London, and The Mother (250 million hours) featuring Jennifer Lopez proving to be the biggest triumphs.

Netflix does caution fans not to evaluate any title only on its stats.
‘Success on Netflix comes in all shapes and sizes, and is not determined by hours viewed alone. We have enormously successful movies and TV shows with both lower and higher hours viewed,’ they wrote.
‘It’s all about whether a movie or TV show thrilled its audience — and the size of that audience relative to the economics of the title.’
