What better way to kick off 2022 than lounging on the couch with some top class TV?
Okay, there may be a couple of ‘better’ ways, like a long walk or cycle to stick to your ‘I’m going to be healthy this year’ New Year’s resolution plans.
But for most of us, these resolutions don’t start until January 2, because let’s face it, the entire country will be suffering from a collective hangover.
So if you, like many of us, plan on spending the first day of 2022 in your pyjamas and finishing off the last of the Roses in front of the telly, good news: there is some absolute gold on TV on New Year’s Day.
To celebrate the start of a new year, BBC One, Channel 4, ITV and other broadcasters have pulled out all the stops to keep you entertained.
So, what’s on TV on New Year’s Day?

Brand new thriller The Tourist also makes its debut at 9pm, and promises to be an absolute rollercoaster.
Of course, the main event is brand new Doctor Who, with the upcoming festive episode featuring special guests Aisling Bea, Adjani Salmon and Pauline McLynn (Aka Mrs Doyle from Father Ted).
