Even though only one episode has aired so far, Gordon Ramsay has Next Level Chef viewers yearning for more of the new ITV cooking competition.
The series, which originated in the United States, features a variety of candidates competing on different floors of a three-story kitchen in an attempt to please judges Gordon, Paul Ainsworth, and Nyesha Arrington.
The eight-part series follows 12 budding chefs as they prepare a variety of meals over three kitchen levels, each designed to test the competitors’ culinary inventiveness, agility, flair, and experience as they compete to advance to the Next Level.
The cooks will be guided by specialists Gordon, Paul, and Nyesha throughout the programme as they fight for a £100,000 reward.
During the first episode, viewers saw the 12 candidates split into three groups, learn who was mentoring them, and face their first obstacles.
Viewers are completely enthralled while salivating over some of the meals prepared.
‘It was hard watching #NextLevelChefUK while I’m on a diet, but of course I wouldn’t miss it for the world! Fantastic show and concept. Can we have another series already @ITV @ITVX !? You know it makes sense! What do you say,’ one person wrote.
Another penned: ‘Great show and concept! High pressure! Protest for@GordonRamsay to make it at least 30 minutes longer though!’
‘Loving @GordonRamsay Next Level Chef!!! Already hooked!’ another wrote, while someone else echoed: ‘I’m hooked already! It’s so tense! Brilliant!’
Other viewers however weren’t so convinced.
‘This will not get a second series i repeat this will not get a second series the format should of stayed in America,’ one person wrote, while another penned: ‘I really doubt this will get a second series.’
Speaking about his new show, Gordon said: ‘At the beginning of my career, I started in the basement.
‘Then you work up to this semi-decent kitchen, and then 20 years later, you build this state-of-the-art kitchen, and that’s how the idea for this was born.
‘They’re cooking what they’re grabbing and by the time we get to the basement, there are minimal ingredients, but that’s where you find out the most about yourself. This is about bringing the best out of individuals.’
Next Level Chef airs Wednesday at 9pm on ITV.
