Nicole Kidman is giving a spectacularly creepy performance in the first look trailer for Nine Perfect Strangers.
The new series from Hulu is based on the book by Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty about a wellness resort guru named Masha (played by Nicole) who promises to change the lives of nine struggling city dwellers.
In the clip, Masha greets her clients as they arrive at ‘the Tranquillum House,’ where they can engage in a 10-day retreat.
Masha is on a mission to re-energise their exhausted minds and bodies – but these nine strangers have no idea what is about to happen to them.
The trailer shows her unconventional methods and the effects, which are obviously not what the ‘nine perfect strangers’ anticipated.
‘You want to get well? You want to heal? Surrender yourself to me,’ she tells them.
‘In 10 days you will be transformed. We are on the precipice of something great.’
In an interview with The Guardian, Australian author Liane explained what inspired her to write the novel.
‘We live in paradise. Most of us live such comfortable middle-class lives, and so, is it the desire for suffering? And this desire we all have for transformation,’ she told the outlet.
‘I can never see an article that says, “Just change this one thing about your life and you’ll be transformed forever” – even though you know when you click on it, it won’t work, I find it irresistible.’
Nicole is joined by an all-star cast, as Melissa McCarthy, Bobby Cannavale, Luke Evans, Michael Shannon, Manny Jacinto, Asher Keddie, Regina Hall and Samara Weaving are also in the series.
Nicole reunites with her Big Little Lies and The Undoing creator David E. Kelley and the two serve as executive producers on the project.
Hulu has not yet announced a premiere date for the streaming series.
