Nigella Lawson’s methods have divided the nation in her new series Cook, Eat, Repeat so far, but there’s one thing all viewers have agreed upon – she knows how to make a shower cap work in the kitchen.
Her banana skin curry and fish finger bhorta might not have been to everyone’s tastes, but the presenter’s brilliant baking hack on Monday night’s show that everyone could get behind.
After making fans envious with a leopard print knife last week, Nigella had another surprise up her sleeve – a leopard print shower cap perfect for proving dough.
As it turns out, the shower cap is a pretty great tool in the kitchen as well as the bathroom. It came in handy while Nigella demonstrated how to make the perfect old fashioned Sandwich Loaf.
Rather than using a moist tea towel or a cling film, Nigella covered her bowl with the snazzy elasticated cap, and it helped the dough to prove like a dream.
She also reassured fans that the cap had never been worn, just in case anyone was wondering.
Fans praised the hack as ‘iconic’, adding that baking the tip was ‘worth the licence fee alone’.
After making the loaf, and showing us how to butter the perfect slice of toast (involving two layers of butter and a liberal sprinkling of sea salt), Nigella used the bread to make a sumptuous-looking chicken sandwich.
It comes after Nigella floored viewers by deciding to throw old banana skins into a curry on her new show last week. After using the fruit for a stunning chocolate tahini pudding, the presenter sliced up the leftovers and threw them into the main course. Safe to say, fans weren’t sold on the dish.
‘I’ve been cooking banana peel forever, we always cook banana peel,’ she later told Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard on Good Morning Britain. ‘I thought to myself, I have to share this.’
Nigella’s Cook, Eat, Repeat continues on Monday at 8pm on BBC Two.
