Noel Fielding recounted an amusing meeting with Blue’s Lee Ryan, a taxi driver, and comic Alex Brooker.
Years ago, following a wild Channel 4 party, the Great British Bake Off host, 50, climbed into a cab with The Last Leg co-presenter, 39, and the All Rise singer, 40.
Both Noel and Alex thought they’d invited the Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word artist to their London night out, but were surprised to discover they didn’t know him.
Rather than sorting it out after their party, The It Crowd actor and Alex made the poor decision to have the agonising chat in front of Lee on their way to Soho.
Noel was reminded of the funny voyage when Blue appeared on Wednesday’s Never Mind the Buzzcocks, hosted by Greg Davies, 55.
‘I think I got a bit wrecked with them once at a Channel 4 party,’ Noel remembered.
‘Do you remember that Channel 4 party though?’ Alex interjected. ‘Me and you ended up in a taxi into Soho with Lee Ryan.’
The journey certainly came back to Noel as he winced and said, ‘Oh my gosh.’
Alex revealed that he thought Lee had been invited by Noel, whilst the Mighty Boosh star assumed the singer was a friend of the comedian.
Alex and Noel eventually realised that neither of them knew Lee and that he had essentially tagged along on their night out – and they discussed it while he was still in the taxi.
Breaking down into a fit of giggles, Alex said: ‘And then he’s like, “I can hear you.” He was sat right in front of us as we were having this conversation.’
In January, Lee was found guilty at Ealing Magistrates’ Court of racially aggravated common assault by beating and behaving in an abusive way towards the cabin crew member.
The court heard that on July 31, last year, he boarded a British Airways aircraft from Glasgow to London City Airport after consuming a bottle of port.
After being denied more booze and instructed to return to his seat, the popstar made remarks about flight attendant Leah Gordon’s appearance, calling her “my chocolate cookie,” before stating she could have their “chocolate children” and seizing her wrists.
When appealing the verdict last month, the singer stated: ‘I’m not racist,’ and also argued that it was ‘drunk banter’ on the aircraft and there was no malice or purpose to harm anyone.
The One Love singer will be sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on an unspecified date.
