NTAs 2021: Kate Garraway ‘deserves’ to win award for Finding Derek, says GMB co-star Susanna Reid

Susanna Reid has thrown her full support behind Kate Garraway (ITV)

Kate Garraway’s Good Morning Britain co-star Susanna Reid has thrown her full support behind her friend ahead of tonight’s National Television Awards.

Susanna posted a sweet tribute to her friend on her social media accounts earlier today, urging her followers to vote for Kate’s documentary Finding Derek.

The programme showed Kate’s difficult time dealing with her husband Derek Draper contracting Covid-19 last year, having still not recovered from the illness.

In the category, they will be up against Katie Price’s documentary, Harvey and Me, Rob Burrow: My Year with MND and Roman Kemp: Our Silent Emergency.

Accompanied by a backstage picture of the presenting duo, Susanna wrote: ‘VOTE! @kategarraway made the most moving documentary Finding Derek which deserves to win the award at the #ntas tonight.

‘She is an inspiration, a devoted wife, a wonderful mum, a fabulous friend and through it all she has kept smiling – and never fails to make everyone else feel good.’

‘Good luck @kategarraway you deserve it.’

Fans soon gave their support to the GMB host in the comments, who has publicly spoken about her challenging journey navigating Derek’s continued illness.

One said: ‘Good luck Kate, you’ve been amazing.’

Another shared: ‘I hope Kate wins, she deserves it, she has been through hell and back but keeps on smiling. Good luck to her.

‘Kate definitely deserves to win, so moving inspiring documentary,’ wrote a third.

Another commented: ‘Already voted! Really hope she wins tonight as the documentary was a real insight to see what happened to Derek and many others [love heart emoji].’

She also encouraged those watching GMB to vote for the presenter alongside Martin Lewis on Thursday morning’s episode.

Martin said of the documentary: ‘It was compelling and difficult watching for those of us who know Derek and, I suppose, for those who don’t.

‘The vote is open now, it closes at lunch time, Kate is up for an award. Go and have a look at the documentary category. It’s not for us to tell you who to vote for, but it’s called Finding Derek…”

Susanna added: ‘Vote for Kate. I’m not going to be reserved about it!’

The NTAs air tonight from 7:30pm on ITV.
