Oldest surviving identical twin Lil Cox breaks hearts after sister Doris’ death: ‘There’s no bringing her back’

The oldest surviving identical twin, Lil Cox, broke hearts as she opened up about her sister’s death on Good Morning Britain.

Doris Hobday sadly died last week aged 96 after being hospitalised with Covid-19. She rose to fame last year after entertaining appearances on GMB and This Morning alongside her sister.

Lil was visibly devastated as she spoke to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on Wednesday, stating: ‘It’s only me now.’

Piers passed on his condolences and said: ‘I was so distraught to hear that Doris had lost her life.’

The former factory worker replied: ‘You’ve got to make the best of it, there’s no bringing her back…

‘There was only me and her for how many years.’

Lil’s grandson Brayden said: ‘It’s been very hard for us as a family, very emotional.’

Piers added: ‘Everyone at Good Morning Britain is so sorry about Doris. She’s in our hearts, you’re in our hearts.’

In a light-hearted moment, Lil laughed while recalling how they used to get kicked off buses while singing loudly after a shift at the factory.

When asked about how the coronavirus pandemic has been handled in the UK, Lil replied: ‘I don’t think you could have handled it any different.

Lil also said that she’s ‘almost’ recovered from her own bout of coronavirus.

Announcing Doris’ death last week, her family said in a statement: ‘Doris was only a few weeks away from being safe, with her vaccine letter arriving two days after her death.

‘If you are offered the vaccine, please take it, do not refuse it. Doris did not get this choice.

‘We are aware they’re both 96-years-old and we’ve been so lucky to have them in our lives for such a long time. But they were both still going strong before this virus got them and both were determined to live until 100.’

The family added: ‘They had so much to live for, it’s just so cruel that Covid has stopped Doris like this. Our thoughts go out to all the families who have experienced a loss through Covid and we urge people to take this seriously.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
