Olly Alexander has been named the United Kingdom’s Eurovision entry for 2024.
The Years & Years frontman, 33, made the shocking disclosure during the Strictly Come Dancing final when he seemed to give out the voting Terms and Conditions.
Olly is already well-known throughout Europe for singles like as Desire, King, and If You’re Over Me.
He also starred in Channel 4’s drama It’s A Sin, for which he received a nomination for Leading Actor at the 2022 Bafta Television Awards.
The musician has also worked with Sir Elton John, Kylie Minogue, and Pet Shop Boys.
His involvement was announced months before the BBC generally unveils their Eurovision preparations.
‘I love Eurovision so much, it’s a dream come true,’ he told Strictly host Claudia Winkleman during the show.
‘I’m just so, so excited.’
Following Loreen’s victory in Liverpool in May, the tournament will be conducted in Malmo, Sweden, next year.
The United Kingdom hosted on behalf of Ukraine this year, following Kalush Orchestra’s victory in 2022, but despite the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Mae Muller represented with I Wrote A Song, but unfortunately ended second to last on the scoreboard.
Olly stated in a press release that he has been watching the competition since he was a youngster, so let’s hope he can bring some luck!

‘As a young boy I always looked forward to this incredible event of unbridled joy, the wonderfully chaotic mix of musical styles, theatrical performances, heartfelt emotion and humour,’ he said.
‘I really can’t believe I’m going to be a part of such a special legacy and fly the flag for the UK in the gayest way possible, it shall be an honour!
‘I’ve wanted to do this for a long time and it feels like the right moment to start releasing music under my own name.’
He added: ‘I’m determined to give it everything I’ve got and put on an excellent and unforgettable performance for you all!’
Following the news, Olly also uploaded a video of the moment he found out he was the chosen act, in which he quipped that he had to try his best not to scream in public.
The song he will sing in May is still being kept under wraps, but the BBC has reported it was co-written by Alexander and Danny L Harle, who has previously produced songs for Dua Lipa, Chic, and Charli XCX.
Over the last decade, Years & Years have had five UK top ten singles and two number one albums, as well as chart success in Eurovision nations such as Belgium, Ireland, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden.
Olly’s hometown of Harrogate previously hosted the 1982 Eurovision Song Contest, which Bucks Fizz won for the United Kingdom the year before.
Sweden and Ireland currently have seven Eurovision triumphs each, while the United Kingdom hasn’t won since 1997.
