One of Britain’s oldest twins thanks Piers Morgan for flowers after identical sister dies of Covid aged 96

One of Britain’s oldest twins has thanked Piers Morgan and Good Morning Britain for sending her flowers after her identical sister died from Covid-19 at the age of 96.

Doris Hobday, who was a popular guest on GMB alongside her twin Lillian Cox, sadly died on January 5 following a battle with coronavirus.

Following her death, Piers and his co-host Susanna Reid paid a moving tribute on the ITV breakfast show, where they described the sisters as ‘such a ray of sunshine’.

Lil, who also contracted the virus at the same time as her sister, took to social media on Sunday to thank their followers for their support since she left the hospital.

‘I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their support and lovely messages this week,’ she penned.

‘And a special thank you to Piers and GMB for my beautiful Get Well Soon flowers. It’s been a very sad week, but I know Doris would want us all to keep smiling and remember all the joy she has brought to our lives.’

In the post Lil also paid a moving tribute to her twin and her ‘best friend’.

She continued: ‘I feel so lucky to have had her by my side for 96yrs, she wasn’t just my sister she was my best friend, we created so many special memories which will stay with me and for that, I’m forever grateful.

‘Today is the first time I’ve wanted to get dressed since leaving hospital, Covid has definitely been the biggest fight of my life but each day I’m feeling stronger and I’m slowly starting to feel like me again.’

Instead of flowers, Doris and Lil’s family have asked for donations to The Beacon Centre for the Blind, and have set up a fundraising page for the public.  So far the page has raised more than £4,000.

‘Thank you to everyone who has donated to the memory page I’ve set up,’ Lil added.

‘Doris would be so proud of this page and it’s nice to be able to raise money for a local charity close to her heart. Please stay safe everyone, stay home, save lives. Sending Love and Best Wishes to each and everyone of you. Lil.’

Doris and her twin Lil became viral sensations last year with their appearance on This Morning when they revealed Channel 4 had invited them to go on Naked Attraction.

They also entertained GMB viewers in May when they revealed the secret to a long life was ‘plenty of sex’. Lil also told Piers that she would ‘die happy’ if she were able to have a one-night stand with actor Jason Statham.

Good Morning Britain airs daily at 6am on ITV.
