Only Fools And Horses might return for a new TV season, according to Paul Whitehouse.
The 65-year-old actor portrays both Grandad and Uncle Albert in the West End adaptation of the classic comedy, and he hopes to bring the updated version to television after its run at London’s Theare Royal finished earlier this year.
He told The Sun: ‘We’d love to do a TV version of the stage show and we think it would work well.
‘Our story involves both Granddad and Uncle Albert, Del Boy meeting Raquel and Rodney and Cassandra getting married so we basically condense the seven television series into two hours and 10 minutes.’
Although Paul is aware that any hypothetical remake would be unable to ‘match’ with the classic original, he believes fans would respond positively.
He added: ‘While we can’t compete with the original show, you do get the whole story of Only Fools And Horses. It would be lovely to see our version adapted for television.’
During the four-year run of the stage performance, Tom Bennett portrayed Del Boy and Ryan Hutton played Rodney.
While there is little question that original cast members such as Sir David Jason may make a cameo, his co-star Nicholas Lyndhurst has already dismissed the idea of returning for a revival.
Although Sir Jason, 83, is still living, Only Fools writer John Sullivan died in 2011 at the age of 64, and other cast members such as Roger Lloyd Pack (Trigger), Kenneth MacDonald (Mike the Landlord), and Buster Merryfield (Uncle Albert) have died since the show finished 30 years ago.
Nicholas previously said: ‘We can’t. John is no longer with us. John was the driving force of the show and we have also lost quite a few cast members now.
‘I don’t think I could do it without them and I certainly couldn’t do it without John.’
‘At the risk of depressing everyone, I think the last two times I’ve seen David has been at funerals,’ he added.
