Channel 4 has apologised after technical issues sent its scheduling awry on Wednesday night, much to the confusion of viewers.

The channel was sent into chaos shortly after Channel 4 News finished broadcasting at 8pm, with Kristie and Phil’s Love It or Leave It failing to start.

Instead, presenters of the programme, Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer, were replaced by a blue card that displayed the show’s transmission details.

The blunder meant that Love It Or List It was delayed, however further chaos ensued when the first ad break came up and failed to air any commercials, seeing a frozen screen pop up instead.

Grand Designs and This Way Up were also affected, with both shows airing earlier than scheduled.

While the lack of advertising was welcomed by audiences, many questioned what was happening at Channel 4 HQ.

‘What’s going on with Channel 4 tonight and no adverts between shows or in the breaks, just a holding card?’ asked one.

Echoing a similar sentiment, another penned: ‘Is there some reason why there are no adverts on Channel 4 tonight? Have I missed something?’

‘We’re having some tech issues on C4 tonight – the eagle-eyed amongst you may have spotted that some of our scheduling has gone awry,’ Channel 4 explained in a statement.

‘We’re very sorry about that and are doing all we can to sort it. In the meantime stand by for updates…..’

In another post, the broadcaster explained the new start time for This Way Up, which ended up airing 15 minutes ahead of schedule.

‘If this has scuppered your evening plans don’t forget you can catch up on All4,’ they added. ‘NB This show contains very strong language and adult content.’
