Warning: spoilers ahead for Ozark.
It’s no surprise that the new episodes of Ozark were filled with brutality… but fans might have been left in shock by the deaths served up by the ending of season 4 part 1 on Netflix.
Two years since the release of series 3, Jason Bateman and Laura Linney return to lead the cast as Marty and Wendy Byrde for the crime drama’s fourth and final season.
The first half of the season ended with a bang, so let’s recap what went down as Marty’s tries to maintain control over his laundering empire in the Ozarks.
Who died… and what does the bloody conclusion mean for part two?
Who died in the ending of Ozark season 4 part 1?
To get the ball rolling, the first episode of season four featured a savage murder, as Sheriff John Nix (Robert C Treveiller) was shot and killed by Javi Elizonndro (Alfonso Herrera).
The death came about after Javi struck up an alliance with Marty and Wendy, in a bid to stop Darlene Snell (Lisa Emery) from farming drugs.
Taking matters into his own hands, Javi decided to kill Sheriff Nix, a sharp blow for the Snells’ operation.
Darlene also has blood on her hands, as she killed Brinkley Simmons, the driver for celebrity chef Kerry Stone (Eric Ladin), after he threatened to speak out about a wild night shared between Kerry and Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner).
The next hit on Darlene’s list came in the form of Frank Cosgrove Sr (John Bedford Lloyd), after he expressed anger over how long it was taking for Darlene to pay him back the money she owed him.
Frank Sr had also fumed over the fact that Darlene was doing business with Frank Jr (Joseph Sikora) without his knowledge – so Darlene shot and killed him to shut him up for good.
Darlene’s murderous rampage and crime-filled antics throughout the entire series caught up with her, and she ended up being killed in episode 7 alongside Wyatt Langmore (Charlie Tahan), Ruth’s cousin.
Having warned Darlene about continuing to farm drugs, in the end, Javi decided enough was enough – killing Darlene and Wyatt right after they’d tied the knot.
Ruth discovered the slain couple in their home, with the ending of season four part one hinting that she will be hellbent on revenge in the final episodes of the thrilling drama.
