Another celebrity has been exposed on The Masked Singer – and we’re shocked!
Panellists Rita Ora, Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, and Mo Gilligan were taken aback when Maypole’s name was revealed in the series’ first double elimination.
When the judges removed Maypole’s magnificent costume to reveal who had been hiding behind it all along, they were astounded to find Melody Thornton of the Pussycat Dolls.
Initially, the panel had thrown out a variety of names, convinced that Maypole had to be a member of a girl band – so near, yet so distant!
After having her identity lifted, US star Melody spoke with presenter Joel Dommett about her hints after the panel opted to rescue the Eiffel Tower when she landed in the bottom three alongside Dippy Egg, who revealed out to be broadcaster Nicky Campbell.
Judges Rita Ora and Davina McCall both felt it may be a former Pussycat Doll member, however they chose Kimberly Wyatt and Ashley Roberts incorrectly.
Rita said once she found out: ‘Hearing your voice and tone, of course it’s you!’
Davina stated that the character’s dance ability influenced her decision to join the female group.
Melody, 39, thanked her for the praise before revealing that she was the only one in the group who was not a skilled dancer or singer, characterising her audition as a ‘Cinderella story.’
She also made fun of the panel because her last ‘clue song’ was Sweet Melody by Little Mix, which meant she was essentially singing her own name.
Reflecting on her time as Maypole, she added: ‘She’s such a sweetheart, it’s been fun.’
Speaking in a post-reveal Q&A, Melody said of her decision to do the show: ‘I think that the thing about this show is that it’s all positive. You actually just get to have fun, and it’s been lovely bringing this character to life!
‘What I’ve enjoyed most is that Maypole is so positive. She’s cheering for everybody else. I wrote a whole biography for my character. She’s not far off a female Pinocchio. So, there’s this part of her that wants to be loved and she’s draped in all of these colours. I just wanted to see her go far.’
Melody added that ‘the worst thing about performing in the costume was sometimes the harness for the head would slip and end up over my eyes.’
On the potential reaction to her unmasking, she said: ‘Who do I think will be most surprised in my identity as revealed? Oh, that’s a good question.
‘Maybe people that are diehard Melody fans and those people that are like, “You can do no wrong!” And they’ll probably be upset, I’ve been unmasked, but don’t be upset. It’s been fun!’

Shirley Ballas, the chief judge of Strictly Come Dancing, was beneath, sparking a commotion in the studio as names like Alex Scott were first mentioned.
Then came the unveiling of Bubble Tea, whose identity surprised one panel member in particular.
Totally unaware that her former co-star and on-screen daughter was sitting in front of her, guest judge Jennifer Saunders received the shock of her life when Absolutely Fabulous legend Julia Sawalha removed her mask.
Last Thursday, daytime TV queen Lorraine Kelly revealed herself to be the star beneath Owl’s disguise, giving us the biggest surprise of all.
Most recently, with Melody’s announcement, Long Lost Family actor Davina burst into tears when her 13-year-old colleague Nicky was revealed.
Reflecting on her amazement at his disclosure, the presenter stated, “Oh, she was emotional.” I became tearful at the conclusion of doing the song again. It was fantastic.
‘I was emotional the entire time, trying to see her through the mask. Each performance, I could just about make her out, and I was thinking, “it’s so near, yet so far away!”
The numbers are already falling as this year’s finale approaches, but who will win The Masked Singer 2024, and more importantly, who celebrity will be exposed next?
The Masked Singer continues Saturday on ITV1 and ITVX.
