Perrie Edwards has acknowledged that she and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have never truly lived together.
The duo has been together for over a decade, but the Little Mix singer said that she and her footballer fiance, who have a kid named Axel and got engaged in June 2022, have never shared a house.
On this weekend’s edition of The Jonathan Ross Show, she was questioned about her long-distance affair with her partner, who presently plays for Turkish club Beşiktaş, and told the host: ‘I can’t lie, it’s hard.
‘When he was playing for Liverpool and based in Manchester, it was so easy to do the back and forth but Turkey is a little bit further and he doesn’t get a lot of time off.
‘I’m trying to launch a solo career whilst having a two year old so it is a lot to juggle but we make it work for the ones we love don’t we?
‘We’ve never lived together anyway – the whole eight years we’ve been in a relationship we’ve never actually lived together.’
Fans will learn more about their relationship on her debut solo album, and she has revealed that one of the tracks, which she co-wrote with RAYE, goes into the complexities of their partnership.
‘Full disclosure, me and my partner don’t argue, we’re very laid back and very chilled. But at the same time, I can be a little bit of a petty b***h and I can’t help it,’ she quipped.
‘I don’t know whether it’s my star sign – cancer. I’m very stubborn, I’m very emotional but not in the best way. I will hold a grudge for anything he might say.
‘I just can’t help the way I am, I’m just like that but we just started writing a song about it and I just thought the lyrics were super relatable.’
Perrie just released her new single Forget About Us, and she acknowledged it was unusual to break out on her own after coming to stardom as a member of Little Mix with Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall, and Jesy Nelson.
She said: ‘It’s really bizarre not having them with me, it does feel really different. I think it was just the right time for us to part ways, do our own thing and I just want them to win so it’s nice seeing them do their own thing as well.’
She is ‘terrified’ about going solo, and added: ‘It’s so different and it’s not what I’m used to. From being 16 I was in Little Mix so I don’t know any different so it is quite daunting but I’m having such a good time so far.’
Meanwhile, Perrie is struggling to come up with a name for her debut solo album, with her team advising her to keep things simple.
‘It’s really hard – I can’t think of anything,’ she admitted. ‘Everyone says “Just call it Perrie”. It’s hard. I don’t know.’
The Jonathan Ross Show airs Saturdays at 10:05pm on ITV1.
