Almost 50,000 upset Our Flag Means Death fans have signed a petition to save the programme from cancellation.
The Taika Waititi series, which can be viewed on BBC iPlayer, was cancelled after only two seasons earlier this month, despite being extremely popular with LGBTQ+ fans and receiving a remarkable 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The petition calls the cancelation ‘deeply disappointing’ and says ‘if the production team is determined for another voyage, we stand by, ready to support’.
The founder, Perla Nation pleaded: ‘Now, more than ever, our voices need to be heard. There is a very small window of time to get WB Discovery to reverse their decision.
‘Blast them with sheer volume and love! Keep it positive! Threats do more harm than good.’
Leading star Rhys Darby responded to the axe with a poignant post alongside a photo of the cast setting sail, which read: ‘us for you, forever.. with love.’

Creator David Jenkins has stated that there would be at least three seasons of the comedy, which follows a crew of desperate pirates in the pipeline.
‘I think three seasons is good,’ he told Polygon. ‘I think we could do it in three. I mean, I don’t know — your perception of what the story really is changes so much in the writers’ room. If it doesn’t, you’re doing it wrong.
‘Because you’ve got all these other super-smart writers who have their own life experiences, and you talk through the season with them, and then you’re like, “Oh, man, there’s all this other stuff there.” But right now, I feel like we could probably do it in three.’
While reviving Our Flag Means Death is implausible, it is not impossible.
Netflix renewed Lucifer in response to public demand, and it went on to become the streaming service’s most popular series.
Our Flag Means Death is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
