Following his departure from This Morning, Strictly Come Dancing executives are reportedly targeting Phillip Schofield.
On Saturday, the Dancing On Ice host, 61, announced his departure from the ITV daytime programme following allegations of a feud with his co-star, 42-year-old Holly Willoughby.
While the I’m A Celebrity broadcaster affirmed it would continue to work with Phil, including on a prime-time programme next year, the BBC is rumoured to want to take advantage of the This Morning schedule gap in his schedule.
Following in the footsteps of broadcasters like Naga Munchetty and Matt Baker, the Line of Duty network is reportedly eager to sign Phil as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing.
Due to the publicity it would generate, according to an insider, the show’s producers would “love” to see Phil dancing on the ballroom floor.
They told The Sun: ‘Phil has been asked before but this time the offer was more aggressive.
‘Since he was axed from This Morning, people have been discussing what they could do with him.
‘Phil has had approaches from broadcasters like Channel 5 who are keen to discuss possible projects.
‘Given he’s currently lying low and trying to work out his next move, it’s unlikely he will put on his dancing shoes but stranger things have happened.
‘No one thought he’d ever leave This Morning and look how that ended up.’
Phil presently co-hosts a comparable competition series on ITV with Holly, but his future on the programme is uncertain.
However, an ITV spokesperson said: ‘Dancing On Ice isn’t due on ITV until January 2024 and the series is not currently in production.’
They added that they will make ‘further announcements’ regarding the programme, including the lineup of presenters, in ‘due course.’
Last year, wildlife photographer Hamza Yassin won the Glitterball Trophy after competing against Helen Skelton, Fleur East, and Molly Rainford in the finals.
Strictly is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
