Phillip Schofield has faced criticism from This Morning viewers after taking a bite out of a giant gingerbread house, which is being donated to charity.

On Tuesday morning’s This Morning, Phillip and Holly Willoughby were presented with an enormous, life-sized gingerbread house by baking expert Juliet Sear.

Juliet explained that the house was constructed by building the structure out of wood, before placing hundreds of gingerbread bricks and decorative elements on top, including edible ‘glass’ windows made of boiled sweets.

Holly was the first to take a peek inside the house, sitting down as she looked around at the culinary construction in awe.

After she exited, Phillip made his way towards the house, impulsively taking a bite of the gingerbread biscuit surrounding the doorframe.

Before having a taste of the gingerbread house, Phillip announced that after its appearance on This Morning, the gingerbread house is set to ‘be donated to the City Harvest charity for distribution through London’.

Considering the gingerbread house is due to be donated to charity, several This Morning viewers were angered by Phillip’s decision to take a bite out of it.

‘The gingerbread house is amazing, but is it really hygienic to have that distributed afterwards?’ one person tweeted.

‘And I bet Juliet’s not best pleased with Phil taking a bite out of the door frame like that!’ they added.

‘Phil!! You have now made it not Covid safe!!!’ someone else said, while another person remarked: ‘Was that not meant to be for charity?! Then he goes and takes a chunk out of it…’

During today’s This Morning, Phillip and Holly discussed the debate currently surrounding what constitutes a ‘substantial meal’ when being served alcohol in tier 2 areas when lockdown eases across England.

Radio presenter Nick Ferrari stated that earlier in the morning on LBC, Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove suggested that two Scotch eggs and a pickle on the side could be deemed a ‘substantial meal’, after the politician described it as a starter.

Phillip looked visibly incredulous by this suggestion, rolling his eyes as Holly laughed.

This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
