Apple TV Plus comedy-drama Physical scaled back its season 2 premiere to a private event after Tuesday’s devastating school shooting in Texas.
At least 21 people, including children and teachers, were shot dead at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott later identified the suspected gunman as Salvador Ramos, an 18-year-old who was reportedly a student at Uvalde High School.
Following the harrowing events in Texas, the cast and crew of Physical cancelled the red carpet event in the state, opting instead for a private screening of the new season.
‘Out of respect for today’s tragedy in Texas, tonight’s screening of Physical season two will be a private event with no press,’ a statement from Physical‘s cast and creative team, shared by US media outlets, said.
‘We thank you for wanting to be there with us, and know that you join with us in our heartfelt support for all of the families affected by today’s event.
‘We’re grateful for your understanding.’
As well as Rose Byrne and Murray Bartlett, co-stars Rory Scovel, Dierdre Friel, Della Saba and Paul Sparks were all set to be at the red carpet event.
Also on the guest list were showrunner Annie Weisman and executive producers Marty Adelstein, Alissa Bachner and Becky Clements.
Set in 1980s San Diego, Physical follows Sheila Rubin (Rose Byrne) through her journey of self-discovery via aerobics.
It was renewed for a second season ahead of its first season finale which is set to premiere on June 3.
The mass shooting comes almost 10 years after a gunman shot dead 26 students and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut.
Many famous faces have expressed their anger at the situation, calling for tougher gun laws to be put in place.
British actor Jason Isaacs asked: ‘When will the right to bear arms be balanced against the right to live free from fear of slaughter by arms?’
Captain America star Chris Evans wrote in all capitals: ‘F****** enough!’
Kylie Jenner, who shares two small children with boyfriend Travis Scott, wrote in her Instagram stories: ‘Another school shooting. Devastating. Breaks my heart for these families.’
Uvalde is also the home town of actor Matthew McConaughey, who said America must ‘do better’ in an emotional statement released last night.
Physical season 1 can be streamed in full on Apple TV Plus now.
