Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid pay emotional tribute to 100,000 coronavirus victims on Good Morning Britain

Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid paid an emotional tribute to the 100,000 people who have died of coronavirus on Good Morning Britain.

During Wednesday’s instalment, the presenting duo took a moment to remember each and every person who has been a victim of the virus since the pandemic began last March.

As they paid their tribute and read out personalised eulogies, a screen behind them showed a photo montage of every single person who has died.

It comes after it was confirmed yesterday that the Covid death toll had now surpassed 100,000.

‘We passed a horrendous milestone in this country, 100,000 people have now died from coronavirus in the UK,’ Piers began.

Susanna continued: ‘This morning, we pay tribute to all those who have died and to those who have been left behind.

‘With family permission, here are just some of their stories.’

As the pair shared details about each of the victim’s lives, Piers and Susanna also paid a tribute to GMB favourite Doris Hobday, one of Britain’s oldest twins who recently died from the virus.

‘Britain’s oldest twins, 96-year-old Tipton twins, Doris Hobday and Lillian Cox were great friends and of course, great supporters of the show,’ Piers added.

‘Sadly they both contracted coronavirus. Lil is now out of hospital and recovering, sadly Doris passed away on the 5th January, two days before her vaccination letter arrived.

‘Doris and Lil worked in factories, they used to get the bus together. They were often thrown off for singing too loudly.

‘In a few minutes we will be joined by Lil to remember her twin’s remarkable life.’

‘For each name and every story we have told,’ Susanna explained as she struggled to hold it together.

‘There are at least 4,000 more people who have died of coronavirus within the last year.’

Piers concluded: ‘We pay tribute to each and every person who has lost their lives to this dreadful virus, may they all rest in peace.’

Viewers took to Twitter after the segment to praise Piers and Susanna for the moving and emotional tribute.

One tweeted: ‘I don’t know how your can keep a dry eye. I’m absolutely bawling my eyes out. Such an important piece of journalism.’

Another commented: ‘Well done Piers and Susanna, such a powerful tribute.’

While one added: ‘This is so harrowing seeing the faces of the victims who have lost their lives to Covid. I applaud GMB for doing this.’

Good Morning Britain airs daily at 6am on ITV.
