Piers Morgan believes the BBC incident involving an unknown presenter has “struck another nail in the coffin of our faith” in the channel.
It was recently claimed that a senior BBC broadcaster paid a teenager more than £35,000 for sexually graphic images dating back to when the child, now 20, was 17 years old.
However, a lawyer representing the teenager described the allegations made by the teenager’s mother as “rubbish,” as reported by BBC News At Six.
Nonetheless, the child’s parents have stated that they stand by their accusations.
Following a meeting between BBC representatives and investigators on Monday morning, the Metropolitan Police stated they are undertaking additional investigations to determine if any crime was committed.
The BBC confirmed that the male star at the centre of the allegations, who has not been named, had been suspended, with a spokesperson saying in a statement: ‘The BBC takes any allegations seriously and we have robust internal processes in place to proactively deal with such allegations.’
On Monday’s Piers Morgan Uncensored on TalkTV, the TV anchor shared his thoughts on the current state of affairs.
‘It seems a warped sense of priorities here and it’s causing a lot of unrest amid other BBC staff,’ the 58-year-old said.
‘It seems to be a failure, wrapped up in a fiasco inside a farce against the backdrop of the scandal of Philip Schofield at ITV, which rocked British television and the country, frankly, the hesitation looks even more unforgivable.
He continued: ‘And whatever the truth about these allegations, and we do need to get to the truth very quickly, BBC leaders have managed to put another nail In the coffin of our trust in the BBC.’
Morgan attacked the BBC’s coverage of the dispute on Sunday evening.
Someone on Twitter shared an image of a BBC news article outside the broadcaster’s building, along with updates on the controversy.
The tweet read: ‘BBC host asks BBC reporter standing outside the BBC about allegations against unnamed BBC star. BBC reporter says they “haven’t been able to confirm” whether the BBC presenter has been suspended by the BBC.’
Morgan responded to it by quote-tweeting the post and writing: ‘Ridiculous.’
Piers Morgan Uncensored airs weeknights at 8pm on TalkTV.
