Piers Morgan is rather delighted by the news that his BBC Breakfast rival Dan Walker has signed up for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Dan confirmed his place on the line-up for the upcoming series on today’s programme, shortly after former Coronation Street actress Katie McGlynn was announced.

Ex-Good Morning Britain star Piers revelled in the prospect of seeing Dan take to the notorious ballroom floor and shared the official Strictly post on his Twitter page.

‘My Christmas just came early….’ he penned.

Pier and Dan have had an ongoing rivalry for what feels like an eternity now, with the pair recently coming to blows over Ben Stokes’ withdrawal from cricket for mental health reasons, after Piers criticised Simone Biles for her exit from the Olympics.

Their clash came just one week after Dan confessed that he misses his competitive banter with Piers, saying that he ‘never shied away from a bit of competition’.

When Piers was a co-host on Good Morning Britain, he and Dan would frequently be at loggerheads, mocking each other over everything from ratings to takes on current affairs.

When asked about his rivalry with Piers, 56, Dan said: ‘We’re okay. I sometimes miss the back and forth – we had a little ding dong about Emma Radecanu on social media.’

Speaking to The Sun’s TV Mag, the 44-year-old continued: ‘Him just pontificating about how she should have acted and what was going on in her head, so I just asked him what he would have felt if she’d stormed off in a huff.’

Dan joins the previously announced Strictly Come Dancing line-up of TV presenter AJ Odudu, Peep Show’s Robert Webb, McFly star Tom Fletcher and Dragons’ Den investor Sara Davies.

CBBC host Rhys Stephenson and former Bake Off winner John Whaite will also be taking to the dancefloor in the BBC One series, with Whaite set to compete as part of the show’s first all-male pairing.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One later this year.
